The Plants

Below is a list of what we are growing at the moment.  We have grown from both seed and from plants.  The majority of the tomatoes and other plants were bought at the San Diego Botanical Garden's from their yearly Tomatomania festival (17th March) with the help of my lovely friend Ann Ellis who helped us choose a variety of tomatoes in the pouring rain!  Some of the plants were bought at the Leucadia Farmer's Market (11th March) and the seeds were bought from HomeBase.  We used 'Martha Stewart Living' organic (corn, mustard, watermellon), Stover (Pumpkin) and Ferry-Morse (Sweet Peas) seeds.  Building the 8 by 4 foot planters was a family affair.   They are built from wood with a chicken wire base (to keep out the gophers) all bought from HomeBase.  Richard was definately the forman and main labourer.  He constructed the planters whilst Louis, Mia, Oscar and I as well as various of the kids friends sealed and painted the wood.  The soil is the Planter Mix from Great Soil in Escondido/San Marcos.
